Pu-erh tea from the Spring Court of Menghai Tea Factory is made with high-grade tea leaves of spring buds, which are more expensive than regular pu-erh tea. From a production process point of view, it requires higher standards and less quantity. The key to retaining the appearance of the young buds after fermentation is crucial in terms of maintaining its marketability.
Compared with the conventional Pu-erh ripe tea, Imperial Pu-erh is made from high-grade tea buds of spring flush as its main material. In terms of production process, it requires a smaller amount and higher technical requirements for processing. How to preserve the overall appearance of the sprout leaves after fermentation is a key factor in having good visual appeal. Today's Imperial Pu-erh originates from Menghai Tea Factory, which comes from the same origin as today's classic mature tea. Is there a consistent taste experience? You can try it to see for yourself.
This is a 2021 Pu-erh ripe tea from Mengla county, Yunnan province. The dry leaves are thin and tender, with golden tips. In total they are well-proportioned and neat.
Using 7 grams of tea, a standard bowl is poured with boiling water to rinse. The tea flavor has the sweetness and intensity characteristic of mature tea. However, there's a slightly salty taste that's uncharacteristic, and it lacks depth and harmony in its flavors. This is an unexpected twist. The soup color is murky, with a dark brown tone. Upon entering the mouth, the liquid path feels rough and lacks finesse. In short: not smooth. One can't experience the feeling of the tea flowing smoothly down the throat into the belly.

The standard for tea tasting: thick, smooth, mellow and sweet. "Thick" refers not only to the color of the tea liquid but also to its viscosity that can be felt by the eyes as well as by mouth. "Smooth" refers to the fineness of the tea liquid without any coarseness. "Mellow" means that the tea has enough taste, so you can feel directly the basic characteristics of the tea in it. For matured teas, being sweet is very important: not stimulating nor bitter, but with a natural sweetness.
